Getting started

Set Chatty up in a few minutes and put the chat window on your website.

Chatty answers your customers' questions from what you teach it, and brings in a person when it cannot help. Setup takes a few minutes and has five steps. You can stop at any step and come back: Chatty remembers where you were.

Start or continue setup

The five steps of setup. You can stop at any step and come back.

1. Your business

Tell Chatty what your business does and give the address of your website. Chatty uses this to introduce itself and to know what to read next. The name is the one your customers know, for the chat window. It does not rename your Chatty organisation: do that under Settings → Organisation.

2. What Chatty reads

Chatty looks at your website and lists the pages it found. Tick the ones that matter: pricing, how things work, questions customers ask. You can also add documents and videos. Whatever you tick becomes Chatty's knowledge, and you can add more at any time.

3. How it answers

Choose how Chatty should sound, and what it says when a customer first opens the chat window.

4. Try it

Ask Chatty a question the way a customer would. Under each answer it shows where it found the information. If an answer is wrong or missing, go back and add what it needs to read.

5. Add to your website

Copy the short snippet and give it to whoever looks after your website. The chat window only appears on the addresses you list, so check that your website is there. You can find the snippet again later under Channels.

After setup

The menu down the left of every screen: 1 your daily work, 2 set up, 3 settings, 4 advanced.
  • Customers' conversations appear in the Inbox.
  • When Chatty cannot help, it hands the conversation over and a ticket appears under Tickets.
  • Invite your colleagues under Team, so more than one person can reply.
  • Watch your free trial and your credits under Plan & usage.
